家庭用では「カバーステッチ」という名称が一般的になってきていますが、正しくは、「片面飾り縫い」や「二重環下飾り縫い」と称します。

表から見ると直線 2列縫い、裏から見るとロックの縫い目のように見えます。

ロックミシンと異なるのは、布端以外でも使われ、 Tシャツの裾や袖口、襟などで、意外に多く用いられます。
